3. CLUB 8 "DANCING WITH THE MENTALLY ILL"

"let's all move to Sweden!" today i discovered Club 8, yet another awesome Swedish indie pop band, the list is endless. granted the duo of Johan Angergård {composer/multi-instrumentalist} et Karolina Komstedt {singer} have been around since the 90s, i've only just found them now. lucky me, i have a massive back catalog of indie pop/dance songs ahead of me!

i went back et forth as to which track i liked best, but Dancing With the Mentally Ill won out in the end {such a great title!}, the track is from their latest album "The People's Record". Dancing {et the rest of the album for that matter} is a unique amalgamation of the Swedish indie pop melodies we all know et love et zestful/driving African tribal rhythms. the result is a potently catchy song with a seductive carnivalesque atmosphere.

"I'm happy when, I'm dancing with the mentally ill."

Komstedt's wispy et bittersweet vocals {a prerequisite for Scandanavian indie pop} are heightened by the haunting/incantatory backing vocals that drift in et out, reminiscent of 70s Fleetwood Mac. her delicate et introspective vocals are captivating on this track, comparisons to fellow Swede Victoria Bergsman {former Concretes singer, now Taken by Trees} are likely, but here, Komstadt's disaffected delivery et tone evokes Debbie Harry/Blondie on Heart of Glass.

the song features an awesome thumping bassline et catchy guitar riffs loaded with reverb, recalling late 80s Fleetwood Mac, like Big Love et Everywhere. there is also an underlying gritty mix of 70s afrobeat et disco to get your feet et bodies moving!

another standout track from the album i have to mention is the swinging disco/afrobeat groove Western Hospitality which features another killer guitar riff even Lindsey Buckingham would be proud of.
