MATANA ROBERTS "POV PITI"
i'm not really sure how this mind-blowing album slipped by me last year! wellanyways, i've found it now et feel compelled to share it with those others who were in the dark. it should be pointed out that this album is intended to be experienced as a continuous, unbroken composition, however i feel this track will allow you to ascertain the intent of the work without spoiling the whole. prepare yourself for the devastating, emotionally powerful et politically potent, soulful et cathartic, cacophonous lamentation Pov Piti, from New York-based avant jazz composer/alto-saxophonist Matana Roberts off her phenomenal album "Coin Coin Chapter One: Gens de Couleur Libres" (2011).
Pov Piti is based on et inspired by an old Creole folk song called "Pov Piti Mamzelle ZiZi".
it also evokes the emotional, political et spiritual resonance of Max Roach's landmark album "Freedom Now Suite" (1960), in particular the remarkable Triptych (Prayer, Protest, Peace).
i highly recommend getting yourself a copy of the stunning "Coin Coin Chapter One" album, it is out on Constellation Records, available on cd, mp3/flac or 2x10" vinyl! it is also available digitally from itunes.

355. AMEN DUNES "ETHIO SONG"
if you've been hanging-out for a healthy dose of woozy, hallucinogenic pop, then you can stop your fretting, i've got exactly what you need, check out the ecstatically impassioned et sincere, warbly, reverb-addled, guitar-damaged, acid-folk trip Ethio Song, from New York-based psych-pop/folk crooner Damon McMahon aka Amen Dunes off the "God Damn I Hate the Blues" split 7" (2011).
Ethio Song is a unique et idiosyncratic interpretation of an old traditional Ethiopian folk song, enjoy!
the "God Damn I Hate the Blues" split 7" is out on Kraak Records, it is part of an on going series of wonderful split 7" releases, definitely worth checking out.
if you don't have Amen Dunes' absolutely phenomenal "Through Donkey Jaw" album, strongly urge you to get a hold of it immediately, you can acquire it from Sacred Bones on cd or lp! or you can digitally download it from itunes.
also if you missed my post for the remarkable single Christopher, then check it out along with the stunning video.

327. KIDO YOJI "CITY OF REFUGE"
here's the perfect respite from a blustery et cheerless afternoon, a delightfully fuzzed-out, rhodes piano-laced, spangly, jazz-infused daydream, bathed in a warm, silken sunlight. let's all escape into the blissed-out, breezy interlude City Of Refuge, from Tokyo/NY-based bedroom pop producer Kido Yoji, off his irresistable "Call A Romance" EP (2011).
the gorgeous cover artwork is by Ryuto Miyake.
the stunning "Call A Romance" EP is out now, apparently it is going to be available on cd et lp, but at present i can't seem to find out who or where it is being released! so stayed tuned ... for now you can download it digitally from itunes.
