186. KATIE KIM "THE FEAST"

next up is a disquieting, wistful et airy, acoustic-driven, folk-laced incantation, The Feast from Dublin-based dream-folk merchant Katie Sullivan aka Katie Kim off her forthcoming double album "Cover & Flood" (2011).

MP3: The Feast

the "Cover & Flood" double vinyl LP is set for release later in the year, however you can currently stream a selection of the tracks, classified as 'basement recordings', that will be on the new album via bandcamp.

{update} you can now stream a selection from "Cover & Flood" on bandcamp, it is set for release this in January 2012.

i recommend checking out Katie Kim's soundcloud page, there is a stunning cover of the Proclaimers classic song 500 Miles that sounds like we're overhearing her declaration of love, sung into an old telephone, it is incredibly intimate et achingly sincere.

{update} you can now stream a stunning collection of older recordings that have been compiled to make up "Vaults Vol1" on bandcamp, which includes 500 miles et also an incredible cover of Chris Isaak's Wicked Game, which sounds like David Lynch recorded it! enjoy!

186. TO ...

186.
To compel a man to do day after day the same task,
without any hope of escape of change, means nothing
short of turning his life into a prison-torment.

185. BLOOD ORANGE "SUTPHIN BOULEVARD"

trust me when i say, you need to check out the ridiculously catchy new single, Sutphin Boulevard from Brooklyn-based synth pop/r&b crooner Devonté "Dev" Hynes aka Blood Orange off his much anticipated debut album "Coastal Grooves" (2011).

Sutphin Boulevard is a hypnotic, nocturnal, 80s r&b-laced groove, with an infectious, dirty, stomping beat, sleazy, throbbing bassline, creeping, plinky, oriental-style guitar riffs et of course Hynes' trademark, sultry, smooth, androgynous delivery. grab your roller skates, head down to your local roller-disco et demand that the dj play this track! enjoy!

MP3: Sutphin Boulevard

184. ZOLA JESUS "VESSEL"

i thought i'd liven things up a bit with the ultra-broody, intoxicating, goth-tinged lead single, Vessel from L.A-based dark-wave/avant-pop high priestess Nika Roza Danilova aka Zola Jesus off her forthcoming album "Conatus" (2011).

Vessel is a mesmerizing, dark-wave-infused requiem, Danilova's shadowy, incantatory vocals resound through the darkness, her voice acting as a guiding light, summoning all the lost souls. Vessel ends in an intense cacophony of relentless, abrasive industrial beats et a deluge of swirling, screeching synth washes that continue to build before finally imploding, leaving a deafening silence in its wake.

MP3: Vessel

here's the epic new, 90s-styled music video for Vessel, directed by Jacqueline Castel.

also check out the great Poltergeist inspired music video for the track Sea Walk from Zola Jesus' "Stridulum II" album (2010), directed by Brooklyn-based filmmaker Jacqueline Castel of Future Primitive Films.

the "Conatus" album will be available October 4th from Sacred Bones.

183. SOLANDER "FOLLOW"

next up is a stunning folk-steeped track full of remorse et heartache, Follow is from Swedish avant-folk/pop trio Solander {chiefly Fredrik Karlsson} off their captivating new album "Passing Mt. Satu" (2011).

"But if you go there / I will follow.
If you ever go there / I'll be waiting!"

Follow is a devastating, sombre, chamber-folk elegy, Karlsson's pained, heartfelt crooning et cathartic wailing is reminiscent of Phil Elverum {Microphones/Mount Eerie} et Michel Stipe. Follow is a poignant et emotionally resonant track, overflowing with regret et a deep sense of yearning, enjoy!

MP3: Follow

et here is the stunning lead single The Garden from the new album

MP3: The Garden

182. WIDOWSPEAK "GUN SHY"

i've been watching tonnes of old westerns lately, hence my delight when i heard the new scuzzed-out, melancholy-tinted single, Gun Shy from Brooklyn-based grunge/garage pop trio Widowspeak off their hot new "Gun Shy" 7" (2011).

Gun Shy is a wistful, fuzzed-out, dusty, spaghetti-western-tinged lament, Hamilton's brooding, sultry vocals are enough to lead any man astray, she is accompanied by a suitably, jangly, twangy, Morricone-eque, desperado guitar! enjoy!

MP3: Gun Shy

you can get the "Gun Shy" 7" is from Captured Tracks on vinyl! or you can download it digitally form itunes.

if you haven't already you should check out Widowspeak's stunning Harsh Realm track.
