Thurah's epic treatment evokes the rather preachy et weighty fatalism inherent in the films of Alejandro González Iñárritu, which depending on your taste is a good or a bad thing or perhaps somewhere in-between in that grey zone, anyways decide for yourselves! de Freitas gives us a delicious juxtaposition between lyrical scenic imagery {reminiscent of the poetic films of Jean-Daniel Pollet} et the intimate et playful interactions between a young couple who take turns drawing on each others bodies. an inspired use of overlaid doodly, geometric 2D line graphics {evocative of Ben Rivers' "Slow Action"} cleverly connects the two layers/surfaces/skins together . there is also a playfully lo-fi, homage-of-sorts to Antonioni's iconic, anti-consumerist, explosive climax from Zabriskie Point.
